How old should my baby be for her newborn session? I like to schedule my newborn sessions for around 2 weeks old. I try to stay away from 9 to 11 days old, most babies are going through a growth spurt. I also work with newborns up to 8 weeks old, so if your baby is already here and you haven’t booked yet and are worried that you’ve waited too long… don’t worry!

Do I need to bring anything to my newborn session? I have everything on hand - I even have simple dresses for mom. When I tell you that I have wraps, fabric, bowls, headbands… you literally bring baby and milk and I’ve got the rest.

How long does a session last? My newborn sessions with family are typically around 3 hours long, even with hair and makeup. When I am working with just baby and no family I can typically complete a session with 2 hours, depending on baby.

Do I need to bring a pacifier for my baby? I always suggest allowing me to use a pacifier during your newborn photo session. If you are 100% against a pacifier I will make it work, but it’s a way for me to soothe baby and me using it for short spurts during your 3 hour newborn session will not affect any feeding goals.

What if my baby is fussy? I have worked with 100s of babies, and so many of my parents calls me ‘the baby whisperer’. I have 5 kiddos of my own and with my extensive experience working with babies I can work through just about anything. Bring me ya baby and let me worry about the details. :)

Fahren drove SEVENTY miles to come see me for her maternity photos. Now, for sure, this isn’t the farthest that a client has driven to see me, but I still feel so dang special!!! If I am really being honest, I always feel special when I am chosen over all of the other fabulous photographers around me.

Maternity sessions are a favorite of mine. I specialize in maternity and newborn through baby’s first year. A baby’s first year can mean a lot of things, and to me it can mean milestones like when babies can sit on their own, celebrating your breastfeeding bond, celebrating other milestones like crawling, rolling over, and the baby’s first birthday.

I’d say that about half of my clients have a ‘wish list’ of images and others show up with nothing in mind and want me to do my thing. I am down for either scenario. Fahren brought this two piece outfit to her session and I was excited to incorporate it. I actually had a few poses in mind already, that I’d prepped for another outfit of mine - so we did those same poses with the outfit she brought, and it turned out so good!
